5 Ways to Test Your Vision Now

Can’t get to our facilities or those of your eye doctor? There are ways to test your vision now without having to drive, park, wait, and evaluate. In fact, these tests can be very useful in telling you whether or not it’s time for a change regarding your vision. So if you feel you could use a quick (yet unofficial) eye exam or are just curious to see how you measure up, check out these five ways to test your vision.

1. Essilor

Stop here for 5 different eye tests that can all be done from your screen. Choices include tests for myopia (nearsightedness), far vision, near vision, astigmatism (blurred vision), and Ishihara (poor perception of colors). There are also many other eye and vision resources here.

2. Visual Acuity Test

Reading this from an Android device? This is one of the top rated apps for vision testing. Its purpose is to “to monitor acuteness and clearness of  vision in person’s eyes in the most pleasant, intuitive and stress-free way.” It has 8 different charts, including the rarely seen Japanese Vision Test. And as an added bonus, it’s free.

3. Vision Test

And if you’re visiting from an iPhone, check out this app on iTunes. Rated the best medical app of 2010, it has several different tests plus fun facts and quizzes. The app can also tell you if it’s time to see an optometrist and can even point you to the nearest one (we don’t recommend selecting an eye doctor just because he or she is close).

4. Fun Eye Test

And if you want to have some fun while testing your eyes, stop by this site. There are puzzles, illusions, and more to help you have fun and share with friends. Some of the games include Hidden Face, Straight or Crooked Leg, and Funny Optical Illusions.

5. Macular Degeneration

This condition usually effects older adults and is marked by a loss of vision in the center of the visual field, aka the macula. There are two tests on this site: one short for those in a hurry, one longer for better results. We recommend taking both to get the best results.

Remember that even though these test results can be accurate, they are no substitute for seeing a licensed professional. And if you live in the Bellaire or Houston area, feel free to contact us.
